Crypto Prices Face Rates Again,
While Onchain Settlement Keeps Expanding

Digital Assets Weekly | Issue 003 | 1 September 2026

BTC and ETH again face high rates, a firm dollar and weaker risk appetite, while stablecoin transfers, RWA and agent-payment infrastructure keep growing. The price cycle is cooling; the usage cycle is not.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The key divergence: tokens pressured, rails expanding

BTC trades near $78K and ETH near $2.4K. Higher oil prices and sovereign yields have raised the discount rate again, cooling crypto beta. Yet U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs still recorded roughly $217M of net inflows on 31 August, showing that core demand has not disappeared.

More importantly, stablecoin value is near $303.2B, up 2.59% over 30 days, while monthly transfer volume is near $6.83T, up 32.49%. Onchain settlement is accelerating even as prices and sentiment cool—the strongest long-term evidence in this issue.

This week is not about every token rising. It is about infrastructure that is actually used continuing to grow.

02 · SETTLEMENT LAYER

Stablecoins, RWA and the agent economy are converging

Stablecoins provide always-on settlement assets, RWA brings Treasuries, funds and credit onchain, and the agent economy asks how machines receive authority, select payment rails and complete transactions. Together, they shift long-term value from trading heat toward payments, clearing, identity and compliance infrastructure.

This does not mean every related token captures value. Investors must separate network usage, revenue ownership, token necessity, and the clarity of regulation and legal rights.

03 · QUICK GLOSSARY

Key terms in plain language

RWA

Real-World Assets: rights or records linked to Treasuries, funds, credit and other offchain assets placed on blockchain rails.

Stablecoin

An onchain payment and settlement instrument pegged to assets such as the U.S. dollar; it is not a bank deposit and is not risk-free.

Agent Economy

A machine-commerce system in which AI agents search, decide, buy and pay within delegated authority.

AI Crypto

Crypto networks that incentivize decentralized compute, data, models or agent coordination; an AI label alone does not equal revenue.

04 · PORTFOLIO ACTION

Keep the core, prioritize rails, cap alpha risk

  1. 01
    BTC / ETH

Maintain core exposure and staged entries; do not chase one-day rebounds. ETH needs stronger alignment between ETF flows and onchain activity.

  2. 02
    Infrastructure

Raise research priority for stablecoin issuance, payment access, regulated custody and RWA platforms, focusing on real volume and revenue.

  3. 03
    AI Crypto

Treat TAO, RENDER and FET as alpha watchlist exposures; do not add on narrative without revenue, adoption and liquidity proof.

  4. 04
    Risk boundary

If yields, the dollar and oil keep rising while ETF flows turn negative, reduce high-beta exposure. Downgrade the structural-growth view only if stablecoin usage weakens as well.
